Connor recently built a grocery store in our living room. We have played this game many times, but this time he decided he needed to make signs. At first, he just scribbled a little on the paper and declared it a sign. Then I suggested that we write some letters. He was skeptical about this at first because he thought he would have to "know" how to spell the words. I explained that we could just say the words slowly and write the letters he heard. He gave it a try and made 3 great signs that read: "APL" (apples), "CFE" (coffee), and "QIT" (quiet, Yes at his grocery store you must be quiet. This of course is ironic because he is rarely quiet at the grocery store!) Mommy was vey proud of Connor's writing! Then we hung our signs and arranged all of the play food on the coffee table and end tables. We set up the cash register and we were open for business. (Also we were able to use the receipts Connor had suggested we save from our last trip to the grocery store, a great idea I thought!) Abby and Connor had a great time playing grocery store! Imaginary play is awesome!
